What To Wear

DIY Off The Shoulder Beach Dress

This dress is ridiculously easy to make, and just as easy to wear :) Basically all you’re doing is created two gathered skirts, one the length from your bust to your mid thigh, and the other a mini skirt that just sits around your arms – you then attach them together as shown below and away you go!

How to Make a Men Shirt into an Off The Shoulder Dress

Quite simply it’s the easiest DIY version of the off the shoulder possible. You literally just cut the neck and shoulders off a men’s shirt and elasticate the top edge. And you can create a top or a dress depending on how big your shirt is. We loved them so much we made them for all the girls in the studio!

DIY Tulle Skirt

If there’s one time of year it’s acceptable, nay, required, to wear a tulle skirt, it’s the holiday season. For this project I used a similar method to the classic circle skirt created many moons ago here, just made it a bit longer. Super easy, trust me.

DIY Distressed Boyfriend Jeans

Distressed boyfriend jeans are the key ingredient in achieving that "Oh, this old thing?" chic, off-duty look. But usually, that "old thing"—in particular, a pair of beautifully destroyed jeans—is not truly old. You'll have to make a trip to at least one store, or maybe a dozen. Which brings us to our next point: Those jeans are hardly easy to obtain.

DIY Frayed Denim

Worn, torn, fringed, patched, frayed . . . denim is, hands down, my favorite medium to destroy, mend, dye, embellish, and reconstruct.

DIY Denim Repair

Boro is the age old Japanese art of mending textiles and is literally translated as rags or scraps of cloth. I love the exposed stitching and idea of using various patches to play with pattern and various shades of indigo. Needless to say, ever since I mended my first pair of denim using sashiko embroidery, I’ve been hooked. Not a single pair of ripped denim is safe. I’m coming after you!

DIY Uneven Denim Hem

Many of you asked about the jeans I wore in last week’s DIY so I thought I’d share the far too easy steps to achieve the same look. Using straight leg denim works best here but you an also experiment with skinny and bootcut styles. I’m on a denim destroy and repair roll – try and stop me!

Stand Out with a Jagged-Edge Lapel Blazer

I like to think of a blazer’s lapel as a blank canvas — so much can be done with this particular area. With some simple cutting and folding, you can turn a basic blazer into an interesting statement piece. No one will believe that it’s a DIY project!

Add a Feminine Touch to a Plain Button Down Shirt with a Simple Sewing Trick

Contrary to what most may think, sewing doesn’t have to be scary…I promise! Knowing how to sew a single straight line can do wonders. Once you’ve mastered that, nothing will be safe from you and your sewing machine. You’ll want to sew everything onto everything. Even better: you can add a feminine spin to an oversized button down by adding a lace back panel. The method is quite basic, and only requires beginner sewing skills.

Create a Cozy Cardigan Cowl From an Old Sweater

If you’ve declared a Handmade Holiday this season, and you still have a few people left on your gift list, you can quickly and easily create this cozy cardigan cowl that one of your loved ones would be thrilled to open on Christmas morning.

How to Create a Modern Sleeveless Blazer

As the spring temperatures start to rise and you’re looking for something to wear that’s not too stuffy or hot, consider removing the sleeves from a blazer to create a versatile and modern look. A sleeveless blazer can give you the polished look of a suit for work, or it can be worn with jeans and a T-shirt for a more casual look.

How to Make a Suede Skirt With a Scalloped Hem

Autumn is the best time of the year for suede clothing. This lightweight leather is thick enough to keep you warm without the bulkiness. For a fun and flirty way to wear suede, create a DIY version of this $99 ASOS skirt with a scalloped hem. With this tutorial, you'll learn techniques and ideas for making it without ever touching a sewing machine.

DIY Giant Knit Mega Scarf

Oh my goodness. My obsession with giant knit blankets and poufs and pillows continues. There’s just something about those oversize stitches! The texture is pretty much irresistible — it demands to be touched and cozied up to.

Pearl Encrusted Deep V T-shirt DIY

To create a pearl deep V T-shirt is not too far off from those hideously bedazzled sweatshirts from the 80’s old ladies used to wear… right? But so much better.
