Peyote Stitch Bezel

Step 1

For this technique, we are using a size 11 seed beads (bead A) and a size 15 Japanese seed bead.

Step 2

Choose a round or oval item to bezel. For this technique we have chosen a 12mm crystal rivoli stone.

Step 3

Cut a piece of thread about 6 feet long. Thread the needle. Then begin the bezel by stringing enough seed beads (bead A) to fit around the widest portion of the object to bezel. For this 12mm rivoli, we are stringing 32 seed beads.

Step 4

Bring the beads down to about 6 inches from the end of the thread. Create a ring by going back through the first bead.

Step 5

Make sure the ring of beads fits around the widest portion or your stone. If it does not fit, add or subtract beads by two to ensure you have an even number of beads in the ring.

Step 6

Pass your needle back through all of the beads again and exit from the first bead again.

Step 7

Begin the peyote stitch by stringing one bead A. Then skip one bead and pass your needle through the next bead.

Step 8

String one bead A, then skip one bead and pass your needle through the next bead.

Step 9

String one bead A, then skip one bead and pass your needle through the next bead.

Step 10

Repeat step 8 until you have peyote stitched completely around the original ring of beads. The needle should exit from first bead of the original ring.

Step 11

"Step up" to the next row by passing your needle through the next outside row bead.

Step 12

You should now have 3 complete rows of peyote stitch.

Step 13

To begin bringing the edges of the peyote circle in, creating the front side of the bezel, string one size 15 seed bead (bead B).

Step 14

Go through the next outer bead.

Step 15

String one bead B, then go through the next outer bead.

Step 16

String one bead B, then go through the next outer bead.

Step 17

Repeat step 16 until you have completely gone around the circle.

Step 18

"Step up" to the next row by passing the needle through the first bead B.

Step 19

Begin one more row of size 15 seed beads. String one bead B.

Step 20

Go through the next size 15 seed bead.

Step 21

String one bead B, then go through the next outer bead.

Step 22

String one bead B, then repeat steps 20 and 21 until you have completely gone around the circle.

Step 23

One side of the bezel is now complete.

Step 24

Weave the needle back through the rows of peyote in a step-like fashion until you reach the outer row of seed beads

Step 25

The needle should now exit from one of the Delica beads in the first row.

Step 26

Insert the stone or rivoli into the bezel.

Step 27

Tighten up the bezel like you did on the first side by adding two rows of size 15 seed beads.

Step 28

String one bead B, then go through the next outer bead.

Step 29

String one bead B, then go through the next outer bead.

Step 30

String one bead B, then go through the next outer bead.

Step 31

Repeat step 30 until you have completely gone around the circle.

Step 32

"Step up" to the next row by going through the first bead B of the last row.

Step 33

Add one more row of size 15 seed beads to keep the stone in the bezel. String one bead B.

Step 34

Go through the next size 15 seed bead.

Step 35

Go through the next bead B.

Step 36

String one bead B, then go through the next outer bead.

Step 37

Repeat step 36 until you have gone completely around the circle.

Step 38

Finish off the thread by weaving the needle through several beads in a step-like fashion.

Step 39

Cut the thread.

Step 40

Clean up the ends of your thread, using a Perfect End Thread Burner. Burn, or melt, the end of your thread until the end is no longer visible.

Step 41

Congratulations! Your stone or rivoli is now bezeled.
