Infant Bow Tie

The bow tie is just so cute. Why not give a try now?

– Supplies –

1 1/2″ Double Faced Satin Ribbon
(If you are making a bigger bow, you want a wider width like 2 1/4″ or even 3″ ribbon)
1/4″ Coordinating Ribbon
3/8″ Coordinating Ribbon
3/8″ Elastic
Needle and Thread (or sewing machine)
Hot Glue Gun and Glue

Cut your 1 1/2″ ribbon.

I cut mine to be 7 inches long.
Put your double sided adhesive on the end of one side.

Fold your ribbon over to create a loop.

Put your needle and thread through the center of your loop.

Make sure the seam is in the back.

Then just like a normal bow, you will tighten the center. Do this accordion style.

You want to do less folds for this bow tie. I only have two folds.

Pull your thread around and stitch in the back.

Your main bow tie is done.

Next, cut your elastic and two coordinating ribbons.

For the elastic, you can measure it around the neck of the shirt or your infant. You DO NOT want this to be tight around the neck. Mine is pretty loose, but stays up well.

I cut the 3/8″ coordinating ribbon to be 5 inches. The 1/4″ coordinating ribbon was 3 inches.

Take your elastic and sew it together.

I did two zig-zag stitches on the edges.

Take your 3/8″ coordinating ribbon and sew it onto the elastic.

Cut off the ends of the ribbon and seal with your preferred tool.

Get your bow and put hot glue in the center.

Put the bow tie onto the center of the ribbon on the elastic.

Put hot glue onto the center of your bow.

Get your 1/4″ coordinating ribbon and put it on the glued center of the bow tie.

Put hot glue on the back of the bow tie, on the elastic.

Then you will bring one side of the ribbon around the elastic, cut and seal the ends. Bring the other side of the ribbon around the elastic, cut and seal.

And you’re done! Now you have a handsome bow tie for your little guy!
