Basic Brick Stitch - Decreasing

Step 1

Create a bead ladder as shown in steps 1-13 of the Basic Brick Stitch technique.

Step 2

To begin decreasing, string two seed beads.

Step 3

Skip over the first exposed thread loop, and pass the needle through the second thread loop.

Step 4

Pass back through the last bead added and pull the thread taut.

Step 5

String one bead.

Step 6

Pass the needle through the next exposed thread loop of the first row, and then back up through the last bead added.

Step 7

Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you reach the end of the row.

Step 8

Begin the next row by stringing two beads.

Step 9

Skip over the first exposed thread loop, and pass the needle through the second thread loop of the previous row.

Step 10

Pass back up through the last bead added and pull the thread taut.

Step 11

String one bead.

Step 12

Pass the needle through the next exposed thread loop of the previous row, and then back up through the last bead added.

Step 13

Repeat steps 11 and 12 until you reach the end of the row.

Step 14

Begin the next row by stringing two beads.

Step 15

Skip over the first exposed thread loop, and pass the needle through the second thread loop of the previous row.

Step 16

Pass back up through the last bead added and pull the thread taut.

Step 17

String one bead.

Step 18

Pass the needle through the next exposed thread loop of the previous row, and then back up through the last bead added.

Step 19

Repeat steps 17 and 18 until you reach the end of the row.

Step 20

Repeat steps 14-19 until you have decreased the desired amount.

Step 21

To finish the decrease and end with one bead at the top, string one bead.

Step 22

Finish off the thread by passing the needle down through one side of the decreased brick stitch.

Step 23

Weave the needle several times up and down through the first row of beads. Use sharp scissors or a Thread Burner to trim the thread close to the beadwork. Next, weave the thread tail into the beadwork in the same manner.
